Holy Month of Ramzaan

This is the holy month of Ramzaan. A very pious occasion for Muslims all across the world. A holy month in which all Muslims reinforce their belief in the almighty Allah by offering regular Namaaz (Holy Prayer) and observing fast from dawn to dusk. It is expected of every Muslim who has attained the age of puberty to keep fasts during the month of Ramzaan. There are exceptions only in certain cases e.g. chronically ill and old people.

To its followers, the holy month of Ramzaan teaches spirituality, honesty, modesty, non-violence and patience. Self-reformation is what every Muslim looks forward to as he devotedly keeps all his fasts throughout the month of Ramzaan.

The fasting is followed by Grand Feasting as the fast if broken by grand feasts which includes delightful recipes such as Seviyan Kheer.

The occasion of Ramzaan teaches even the non-Muslims the virtue of being a good human being as it gives us a strong reason to introspect, correct and better ourselves as individuals.

May Almighty Allah bless us all.

India's very own - Kathakali

It is indeed a treat to watch the brilliant dance form of Kathakali. The literal translation of Kathakali is a 'Story presented in a dance form' and is counted amongst the most ancient forms of theatre known to mankind.

The beautiful dance form of Kathakali originates from the state of Kerala in India and truly brings out the richness as showcased in India's diversity. Kathakali performances usually revolve around the ancient Indian scriptures such as the Ramayana and Mahabharatha which are a unique heritage in their own respect.

This dance form is an excellent combination of great story-telling, costumes, make-up, dance, facial expressions, etc. The eye for detail put into the make-up, costume and the dance mudras (steps) is definitely the highlight of this spectacular dance performance.

We hope we can preserve such gems from the rich history of India for the coming generations.

Chants of Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya (Praise O Lord Ganesha, visit us again early next year) will be audible throughout Maharashtra and other parts of India as Ganesh Chaturthi is fast approaching.

The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is held annually to pay respect to Lord Ganesha and celebrate his birth. It is said that no new business venture or for that matter any prayer for Hindus can be considered complete without offering prayers to Ganesha first.

Lord Ganesha holds an important place in the hearts of all the hindus throughout the world as he is considered the vigana harta (remover of obstacles in ones path). Grand celebrations will be witnessed throughout the state of Maharashtra on the occasion of Ganesha Chaturthi which falls on the 23rd of August this year.

Let us all get together in celebrating this great festival which pays respect to one of the most revered Hindu deities - Ganesha who is a Symbol of Learning for all.
