Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony

The 19th edition of Commonwealth Games has kicked off with a dazzling opening ceremony in Delhi. Showcasing the glitters and sparkles of Indian culture, the opening ceremony was rated as the best one ever by DRM. In a 2 hour long event, the 5000 years old nation opened its arm for the world celebrating the grand Indian date with sports of Commonwealth. President of India Smt. Prathiba Patil made the official announcement to start the 19th Commonwealth Games.

Here are some interesting facts related to the opening ceremony of Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 :

> In a historical diplomatic compromise, HRH Prince of Wales - Prince Charles inaugurated the games jointly with honorable president of India - Smt. Prathiba Patil.

> It was for the first time in history that the athletes were seated inside the stadium after parade to witness the opening ceremony.

> The ceremony featured world's largest Helium Aerostag, specially imported for the event with a total cost o Rs 70 crores.

> 25 stacks of speakers were used to produce 5,00,000 Watts of sound during the opening ceremony.

> Over 50 km of power cables that were used to provide constant power for the opening ceremony.

> 2,700 shots of firecrackers were fired from over 88 locations on the roof of the stadium, during the ceremony.
