Bollywood Report Card : 2009

An elongated list of mega flop movies on the silver screen and numerous other factors made 2009 a disastrous year for Bollywood. Katrina Kaif ruled over Bollywood with three blockbuster hits and male actors like Shahid Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor undoubtedly increased their fans list. Legendary Amitabh Bachchan was once again on a exuberant showcase of his acting skills with a lovable and heart-warming performance as a child in the movie Paa. The release of 3 Idiots on Christmas marked a gala end to the year with the movie setting new records of success.

Here is a glimpse to main Bollywood Highlights for the year 2009.

Shahrukh Khan Injured
SRK’s much talked about shoulder injury resurfaced during the shooting of Karan Johar's 'My Name is Khan' in Los Angeles. Khan ended up damaging his shoulder, which he had already injured while performing a stunt for ‘Dulha Mil Ga’. The injury turn from bad to worse and King Khan was advised rest after an MRI scan on his left shoulder and hand. The 'Baadshah' of bollywood was out of the screen for the whole year.

The Great Bollywood Strike

It was a severe blow in the form of the film producers-distributors' tussle with multiplexes over revenue sharing. This led to a two-month strike - from April 4 to June 5 and witnessed a virtual drought of movies. Thanks to some hits like New York and Love Aaj Kal which succeeded the strike and provided some stability to the industry.

Filmfare Awards
