What Will Be The Indian Rupee Symbol? ~ A Thought
We Thank everybody for the tremendous response to our blog titled: “WANTED: Symbol for the Indian Rupee.”
After going through the valuable comments posted by our readers it seems a given now that India needs a Rupee Symbol as soon as possible. BUT...
The Million Dollar question or in our case Million Rupee question is:
What should be this symbol?
We would like to put our dear readers to a test out here. Please unleash your creativity and give us suggestions as to what this symbol could be.
Draw it out here. Upload it on this blog.
{Hint: We feel it has to be a symbol that captures the true ethos and colors of India}
We also wondered post the release of the Rupee symbol, what would happen to:
A. All the Indian currencies in the market, will it be a Total Recall of every penny in the country or a just a large scale minting effort for new ones?
and
B. How would the IT world cope up with the new symbol on the zillion softwares and Personal Computers that are already existing minus the new symbol? Ever wondered: How would you type it?
In the end we conclude with an observation that it might not be as easy as it sounded with the announcement of this competition.
There would surely be a few hiccups along the way...

Should not be an issue if we take EURO as a benchmark :)
Thanks guys.
KISS (Keep It Short and Simple) principle has to apply here. It has to be used in daily use as well, so complex symbols will hamper the actual thinking behind the need for a Rupee symbol.
I’d still go with “Rs” or some derivative thereof rather than an abstract design.
exactly.. definitely a big problem when it comes to typing the new symbol... i wonder how they will manage.
If the govt. has put its step forward to chalk out a new currency symbol then it has to ensure its worldwide presence by all possible means, be it new software applications, mass awareness or up-gradation in the current financial structure.
I personally feel that our new currency symbol must have 0 (zero) as it was invented by an Indian (Aryabhata), and it is the base of the mathematics that the whole world recognizes.
M also thinks the way Nix do.... I seriously don't know how they will mange..... it might create a problem...
! is best.......no one suggest.....??

You will find whatever, you suggested as part of it, and many more like Swastika symbol, King’s face used in ancient currencies, Ashok Chakra, Number 0, letters e.g, R,S,P,U,E,I etc. even र or रु, holy signs like sacred kalash and also the sign of stability along with its negotiation with foriegn currencies with the use of horizontal bar having two open arms facing upward & downward to keep up with market fluctuation and finally as a whole visual representation of an emperor with one sword facing upward in right hand to fight enemies and the other one in left hand facing downward to hole peace in his country but yet it is so simple, can be written generally in three srokes or even in a single stroke if practiced!
